Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Heather and I’m 26 years old. I have been involved with mental health services since I was 14 years old. I guess in some cases people would even go as far to label me as a ‘revolving door psychiatric patient’… I have been diagnosed with everything from paranoid schizophrenia to emotionally unstable personality disorder… that’s just to name a few! It seems my symptoms never really improved regardless of all the different medications and admissions that incurred over the course of 12 years. It seems I easily managed to slip through the net leaving me feeling very lost, alone and misunderstood. I had a bunch of incapacitating symptoms that no professional could seem to fix or give a name to.

I launched this blog in the summer of 2017 (not long after being discharged from my 9th admission from yet another impatient unit) so I could write about my thoughts, experiences and my journey in recovery. It now seems a lot of my problems stem from dissociation. Diagnosis of dissociative disorders are by no means straightforward mainly due to a lack of training and knowledge. Getting the proper treatment from the NHS is also another hurdle. I know I have a long road ahead of me and as I am currently under going therapy, sometimes I think it’s good to share things as I discover them. I really hope you enjoy reading my posts and will be able to relate to them in some way or other. Recovery is a long process and I hope if you enjoy reading my posts… you will at least give me a follow😊
